Interview with Dr. Ketan Mangwal: Ayurveda Insight

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ketan Mangwal here today. Dr. Mangwal is from Nagrota Bagwan, Himachal Pradesh and is currently a government medical officer. He holds a postgraduate Ayurvedic degree from Uttarakhand Ayurveda University . Despite his initial concerns about building a profession in Ayurveda, his dedication and accomplishment, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, have demonstrated the enormous impact of Ayurvedic treatment.

Q. Please tell us about yourself and what led you to seek a career in Ayurveda.

A. I just passed the exam and didn’t know whether to pursue Ayu or not.


Q: How do you combine current healthcare approaches with traditional Ayurvedic methods in your practice?
A. Integration is only essential for critical care.


Q. What are some typical misconceptions about Ayurveda that you’ve encountered?
A. There are no adverse effects, and the action is slow.


Q. How do you stay up to date on the newest Ayurvedic research and advancements?
A. Search engines such as Google Scholar and PubMed.


Q. Could you share some success stories in which Ayurveda has significantly improved a patient’s health?

A. Concept of Vata, Pitta and Kapha

A: Based on Tridosha Sidthanta.

A. Using rasayana in daily life and adhering to dincharya and ritucharya

A. As crucial as the medication.

A. Application of medhya dravya, such as swarnprashana, in children

A. Far better now.

A. There are fewer side effects, and one medication addresses several issues.

A. Encourage them with videos and posters.

A. Ashwaganda and Bhrahmi Jatamansi.



Q: How does Ayurveda handle chronic ailments, and what are some popular treatments?

Additional Insight: Ayurveda focuses on addressing the root cause of chronic ailments rather than just the symptoms. Treatments often include Deepana and Pachana (enhancing digestive fire and digestion) along with specific herbs tailored to the patient’s condition.



Q: How do you confirm the quality and authenticity of the Ayurvedic herbs and items you recommend?
A. Toxicity tests and clinical trials.


Q. Do you have any recommendations for young practitioners and students who want to pursue a career in Ayurveda?

A. Young generation should learn Ayurveda as it is the future of humanity. They should trust Ayurveda, follow Samhitas and keep going.

Additional Insight: This translates to “to maintain the health of the healthy and to cure the disease of the diseased.” This principle emphasizes the importance of both preventive care and curative treatments in Ayurveda.
